AI luggage for people with visual impairments nets rave reviews

The Japan Times

Japanese researchers and companies have joined forces to develop an innovative guidance robot called the AI Suitcase to help blind or partially sighted travelers navigate their surroundings with ease. The groundbreaking assistive technology recently underwent its first overseas public trial, garnering significant interest and sparking discussions about its future practical applications. During the event in March at a hotel in Anaheim, California, the device's English voice from a smartphone declared, "System starts.

Jam Galaxy -- NAMM Performance & June 22 NYC Appearance!

#artificialintelligence

The Jam Galaxy band will be performing in New York City on June 22 at a satellite event of NFT.NYC. Tickets are on sale now! Jam Galaxy band and Desdemona robot had a very successful (and loud!) debut on the main stage of NAMM 2022 in Anaheim California! Jam Galaxy band is making history as the first band with an AI-powered humanoid robot as a lead vocalist -- and the first serious artistic exploration of the synergy between AI-generated spoken word poetry and improvised jam band music! It was fascinating to watch the people in the NAMM audience turn and realize that it was a robot's voice floating out over the palm trees and the late morning crowd -- looks of surprise, shock, and smiles and then a whole row of cameras being held up in the front row.

Video game giant Blizzard celebrates 30 years with Diablo II Resurrected

The Guardian

In a normal year, Blizzard's annual fan convention would have involved tens of thousands of cosplayers, esports pros, players and developers meeting and mingling in Anaheim, California. But, thanks to Covid, the video game developer was forced to postpone 2020's convention and instead celebrate its 30th year with a virtual convention last weekend. Given this significant anniversary, it makes sense that many of the announcements were targeted at nostalgic fans. Three of Blizzard's older titles (Lost Vikings, Rock & Roll Racing and Blackthorne) have been bundled together in the Blizzard Arcade Collection. World of Warcraft Classic, which takes players back to the venerable MMO's earliest days, will get a recreation of its first expansion, Burning Crusade.

Overwatch World Cup: South Korea win gold for third year running

The Guardian

Overwatch World Cup favourites South Korea emerged victorious on Sunday for the third time in a row, despite a round of upsets, including a particularly valiant run from the UK. At Blizzard Entertainment's Blizzcon convention in Anaheim, California, last weekend, the victors of the group stages battled it out to take the trophy in front of thousands of fans. The team-based shooter game Overwatch matches make for exciting viewing, with two teams of six players battling to attack and defend objectives as a varied cast of characters, each with their own powerful abilities. No two matches are the same, as players choose different strategies in an attempt to get an advantage over their opponents. This variety was especially well showcased this year, leading to nail-biting matches and some surprising outcomes.

6 Times AI Didn't Live Up to the Hype

#artificialintelligence

Hollywood hasn't done artificial intelligence any favors, according to Oliver Christie. Speaking at the recent 2018 Pacific Design & Manufacturing Show in Anaheim, Calif., Christie, a consultant specializing in artificial intelligence, said we're in danger of letting the hype and hyperbole around AI cloud our thinking about the technology and its true capabilities. "We think of AI in a war type setting," he told the audience. "We think of the technology as if we're in a sci-fi world, but we're not. And these views are impacting decisions made in the real world."

Danske Bank and Teradata Implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine that Monitors Fraud in Real Time

How AI, machine learning will impact tech recruiting 7wData

Artificial intelligence and machine learning already make a huge impact on the way we watch movies and television, shop, and travel, but how will these new technology advancements affect you as a sourcing or recruiting professional? It all comes down to being able to quickly analyze huge amounts of data and make decisions and predictions based on that, says Summer Husband, senior director, data science, at Randstad Sourceright, in a presentation at SourceCon, in Anaheim, Calif, last week. In a healthcare setting, Husband says, algorithms can be used to perform survival analysis, a machine learning technique that analyzes time to an event, such as a patient's expected time before recurrence of a disease or a death. This process was developed for medical situations and it's a good analogy to sourcing and recruiting except instead of survival analysis, job posting data is examined. Ultimately, the goal is to answer the question, "what's the time to fill?" "So, we take data on jobs we've filled for clients in the past, how long those took, how many candidates, open roles, information about the company as well as job market data from sources like the BLS and CareerBuilder, for instance, to find out how all of those things impact the'survival rate' of our open jobs.
